RANGITIRA (KENNEDY BAY).
(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)
Coromandel, this day.
For some time pasb reports havo boen current to the effect that prospects ot an unusually favourable nature havo been obtained by tho men employed upon this property. For the purpose of estimating the Value of those discoveries 1 therefore visited the locality recently, when I found thab the reports which had been in circulation were substantially correct), and bhab tho aurfnea prospects were certainly of an unusually rich description. _ Up to the present time no lees than eight different leaders and reefs have been"discovered On the Rangitira section of the ground, nearly all of which are composed. of stone. showing visible gold, while on the Index portion, which has nob yet received much attention, two promising reefs have been located. Theso leads have co far of course not been opened up, consequently ib ia impossible to say what they may. make in solid country ; if, however, appearance counts for anything, there should not be any doubb on thab score. The quartz composing the various leaders is of a rubbly brown oxidize:, description, which will without doubb make into a solid compact body aba depth below tho surface. The ground is well adapted for economical mining, hundreds of feet ot backs being available, while its close proximity to Smyfhe Bros,' iron tramway from the Bay renders the transport of mining supplies and machinery ea*y and comparatively inexpensive. The Rangitira having been amalgamated with the Index, the combined properties comprise the lurge area of 187 acres, and the prospects being of such a high class character, it has boen decided, I believe, to floab the claim on the English market, and I understand the necessary plaVis and documents will be forwarded afc once, for the purpose of flotation. The property is bounded on the north by tho Kaohael, west by the Vanderbilt, south by tho Rarigatira Extended, and tho. first and last of these must, ib is considered poßsess bhe leaders of the Rangitira, described herewith, most of which are striking in a northerly direction.
