DEATH OF MR J. LAWSON.

Napieb, Thursday. : News was received thii evening of a mosk distressing accident, which has coeti the life of Mr James Laweon, district engineer on the Napier-Taranaki section of the railway. - " .
Mr Lawsoa, it appear*, was leaning over the platform of the tr»in to ascertain the amount of damage done to the bridgo by the late floods, when his head cane in conbace with one of the iron girders. The force of tha blow knocked him off; tha train into the river below. Two. men engaged' effecting repairs to the bridge saw the body falling and jumped into tba river. They endeavoured to find the body by following the bloed marks which diacoloured the river. . The men and other* searched until dark, but their efforts were fruitless. ■ , r
