MEETING OF NEW ZEALAND FRUITGROWERS.

Wellington, Thursday.

FRUIT PRESERVING WORKS. At four o'clock yesterday afternoon bhe Naw Zealand delegates rea-seoibled, and, a motion was moved by Mr J. Taylor advocating bhe establishment of a Governmenb fruit preserving- works under the management" of an experienced and thoroughly competent officer, and at which instruction ! might be given in fruit preserving. Mr Mitchell (Chri-tchurcb) disapproved of bhe proposal, which he thought savoured of too much " coddling." The mabtcr had beon successfully managed in Canterbury, and could be done in other parts. Mr Avery (Spring Grove) supported tho motion. Mr Gubb (Porb Albert) expressed tha opinion that the matter was outside the scope of the Governmenb entirely. Mr Lorie (Teviot) and Mr Beecrofb (Port Albert), alao objected, bhe latter advising delegates to seek Governmenb aseiabance in bhe "matber of getting fvuib cheaply to market only. Eight delegates voted for bhe proposal, which was lost by a large raajoriby. EXECUTIVE COMMITTER. The queabion of the election of an Execubive Committee to manage tho arrangements in connection with the proposed annual conference of New Zealand fruitgrowera was discussed. Mr Avery considered thab tho Agricultural Department should convene an annual conference, and moved in thab direction.

An amendmenb proposing to appoint an Executive of twelve delegates, and the officers of the Agricultural Department, was lost, only two voting for it, and Mr Avery's motion was unanimously carried.

MISCELLANEOUS.

A motion affirming tho neceasity of wholesale fruib markets in tbe four centres was lost.

A motion providing for a ballot to determine bbc besb kinds of applos, poara, ebc, waa loab.

Another motion that growers should be compensated for cases was also lost. Mr Hanlon moved, and it was carried, bhab the Government should take steps to aecusa the storage of fruit cases on the flat, and more careful handling during carriage to market.

Ib was decided to hand to Mr Ritchie, of the Agricultural Department, the resolutions passed by the meeting.
