HATS OFF.

(To the Editor.)

Sir,—"For bhe wrong that needs resist ance," may I implore your aid ? On the evening of the concert in aid of the Brannerton Relief Fund, I, in company with two friends, attended the Ciby Hall. By reason of a fast filling house, we were forced to take back Beats in a wing of the dreaa circle. From this posibion, under the mosb favourable conditions, not more than half the stage would be visible, but when before us were ranged two rows of ladies' fashionable bats, with their ribbon geysers shooting up to deebroy the chance of seeing even the performers' heads, for all practical purposes, we might aa well have paid our money for the privilege of listening aba keyhole ! Surely, even " The New Woman " should nob hesitate to grant to bhe "old man " a privilege which he has never ceased to concede to her, and which Bhe has always expected of him. This he does when nob even a hair is between him and heaven to cover the nakedness of his cranium, and protect him from a draught. Bub woman, though never afflicted with baldness, with risk of catching cold consequenbly diminished, regardless of man's sacrifice, continues- bo wear an elaborate structure, fearfully and wonderfully made, not for comfort or protection, bub merely for display, bhe does not wear her hab ab an evening party, why ab an evening concert. We poor debbroned men do nob wish to appear rude bo even the advanced woman, but if bar own good taste or the arrangements of those in charge do nob cause tha unnecessary obstructions to be removed we shall be forced to cry to all, regardless of sex — Hat 3 off in Front,
