RHODES OFFERS TO RESIGN.
PACIFIC MESSAGE FROM
KRUGER.
London, May 6. The •'"-Standard", says Mr Rhodes offers, if Mr Chamberlain desires, to retire from the control of the Chartered Company, and return to England forthwith ; also to resign his seat in the Privy Council.
The Cabinet is considering whether they shall call upon him to do so. It is also reported that Mr Rhodes and Mr Beit have resigned their positions in the Chartered Company.
Pretoria, May 5.
President Kruger's message.to the Volksraad is of a pacific, nature. He stated he hoped soon to meet delegates from the Orange Free State to discuss terms of union with them.

Cabinet discussed the proposal of the Premier of Hobart that a joint cable be sent to President Kruger urging clemency to prisoners, and it was decided to take no action in the matter.
