COLOURED LABOUR.
London, April 12.
In the Houbo oi Commons, Mr Hanbory, Financial Secretary to tbe Treasury, referring to the remarks of Mr John Burns with regard to the employment of coloured labour on subsidised mail steamers, said^ ib would be unfair to exclude Lascars. The question of applying to .the Houso of Commons to fix a fair rato of wages on subsidised steamers, required careful consideration. Sir Thomas Sutherland said Lascars were more eflicienb in the Tropics than mixed crews, and obtained a higher rate of pay than Europeans.
