OUR CRICKETERS.

For the resumption of the Cud matches, commenced on November 2nd, but discontinued on account of bha rain, the weathe on Saburday afternoon fell little short of being all thab could be desired. Tho | wicket, too, was in good condition, though nob by any means on* upon which one i would expecb any unusual scores (as far as Auckland is concerned) would bo made. Thad it did prove to bo so, however, is, therofore, nob wholly or even in a great measure duo to the kind of weather, or wicket, bub bo a variety of other causes, prominenb among which is, without doubt, the use of boundaries. Withoub thia, during past seasons, our cricketers havo been placed aba great disadvantage especially commired with Southern players, and ib is nob so certain thab local players have not fallen into disrepute ac exponents of the game in the eyes of those in the South who have, by tho uho of boundaries, boon enabled to knock up much larger scores comparatively than ours. In tho firaO mabchos played under tho now departure, overwhelming evidence has been given ua thab our comparatively small ecoring has been duo bo no other cause. In tho Gordon match Dr. Pabab made 60, and Cottorill mado 60 nob out, and in tho Auckland match Wynyard mado tho fine score of IGA, not out, which is noo only the largest siugio score mado for several seasons past, bub ulso tho largest ever run up on tho JJoartun on orm afternoon. Half of Wynyard's total was mado by boundary hits. In tho Anckland match all of the other Auckland men also did well, Buck making 29. K. Neill 23, Lundon not out 17, and Thomas IS. Though both tho senior matches wero resumed ab one o'clock, neither was played out. Each had to be decided on the first innings, in whinl» ease, Gordon and Auckland were tho victors, tho former by 45 runs, and the latttu by 6 wickets and 209 runs. GORDON V. PARNELL. Gordon continued their innings, which had on the other Saturday stood ao 75 for 5 wickets, bhe two nob outs being Dra. I Ramsay (17) and Pabufc (29). Those two again soon gob to work, and before any separation v/aa effected tho total had uraounted beyond tho century. Ramsay, who had hit hard for 31, waff then dis- | missed in trying to pull a straight ball. His companion continued playing very carefully, and had 60 to his credtb when he followed tho example of Ramsuy in dealing with a straight one from Edward*. Hia inninga wan a realiy fine one. Tho innings closed for 134. In Paruoll's innings tho scoring was nod of a very satisfactory character. Mill? was 1 dismissed by Kallender for 3, and the only playors to reach double figures were Wright, who played a splendid game for 2(J, Sengar and' Angus, two of lash yaar's juniors, who compiled 21 and 20 nob out respectively. Before bho partnership botwoon thoso two 9 wickets hud baon secured for 48, but the last wicket added another 40 run". In Gordon's I second attempt the only pluyers who did woll woro Cottorill, who played a fine inningi? of 60 nob out, and Ramsay, who again hit hard for 17. Tho scores are as follows .
