PONSONBY BOWLING CLUB.
The opening of the Ponsonby Bowling Club season took place on Saturday after- j coon, there being a large attendance of bowlers and of ladies. The Presidenb, Mr , A. S. Rus9ell, addrossod the gathering, and then declared the greon open for the season. ( Mr Russell said that tho Club had been , successful in attaining to a large member- j ship. A great deal was due to tho Secretary , (Mr Ballantyne), not only as Secretary, bu» j' also for the excellenb condition in which ho had kept the ground. He referred to the formation of tho Distric'o Bowling Association, and bo the recenb starting of clubs ab Newmarket, North Sbore, and Remuera. Pluy fchon commenced between two teams (seven rinks a side) picked by tho President (Mr A. S. Russell) and tho Vice-President (Mr Hudson), endiug in a win for the President by IS points. During on interval hi the game afternoon tea was dispensed by bho Ladies' Committoo, consisting of Mesdames A. S. Russell, J. J. Hudson, R. Ballantyne, D. B. McDonnld, J. C«e, Parkinson, M. McDorniott, Brimblecombo, W. J. Reee, J. Sbichbury, J. Court, and E. T. Harb, and Misses M. Edmiafcon and M. Hudson. Ab the cloae of the game cheers were given for the Ladies' Committee and for the visiting bowlerß, ab the suggestion of Mr D. B. McDonald. Mr J. J. Holland (Mayor) replied on behalf of tho visiting bowlers, &c President of the Auckland Bowling Club. During the afternoon tho Newton Band, uuder the conductorehip of Mr T. The Auckland BaDJo, Mandolin, and Guitar Club announce a concert; to bake place in the Opera House on Monday night next, 18th Novamber. The full programme appoars in to-night's Star, which, it will be seen, is of a novel character. In addition to selections by the Club, several of our leading atna'eurs are announced to contribute items, viz., Mrß Florence Anderson, Miss Kate Best, Misses Maxwell, Messrs Archdale Tayler, G. M. Reid, and A. J. Tapper. The prices of admission have been fixed ab 2s and Is, and no doubt the Club will bo honoured wibh a largo audience.
The Rev. J. King gave a lecture at Beresford-etreeb Congregational Church on Saturday night, the eubjecb being "Our Missionary Ship?," The lecture was illustrated by limelight views. Ab the close a collection was taken up.
