The "Register," in commenting on the deficib shown in the Budget, says thab drastic measures of economy are more thai* likely in connection with retrenchment on the railways, and hinta ab the sacrifice of the eighb-hour system, excepting in cases where work is of a continuous nature. Other suggested probable resources of rovenue are : Further reduction of the civil service, oxbonsion of stamp, land, and income taxes, and re-imposition of school fees. In spite of assurances given to the contrary, fears are entertained in commercial circles of increased taxation.
