WHANGAREI JOTTINGS,

The output of coal over Whangarei-Hiku-rangi Railway for month'ending July 30th was 2,881 tons, The number of passengers carried waß 2,600, and the parcels system atill keeps up the average. The receipts in Juno were £47& as againsb £349 expended. July returns aro nob yeb oub bub promise better.

The number of tickets used on the Whangarei Railway before the stage system was inaugurated was over 200. The number now required ia' only (two) 2. Fares have been still further reduced, the stage being now 4d second claaa and 6d first class.

Returns lately received from America of ore sent from Parahaki, near Whangarei township, prove that the ore contains both silver and gold, and are so far satisfactory that efforts will be made 60 develop the properties by the owners as Boon as weather settles.

The output of orangea for June from Wairera orchard waa 2 tons and for July 4 tons. These wereinostlypoor roancr marmalade oranges and averaged from 5s to 8a per case. The eweeb oranges which are now ripening are a good crop and will be much larger than laab year. The other trees tn this orchard are looking well and promise substantial crops. Mr Crabb, temperance lecturer, has been here and addressed crowded houses every night last wsek, and his efforts seem to have been productive of much good. The Native Land Courb is now sitting and there is a large attendance ot natives. The following blocks have been deaib with, OminG, and Toiroa, bub judgment has nob yefi been given for Toiroa. The rehearing of Whatitiri block ia now going on and ia expected to bake considerable time. Judges O'Brien and Mair are officiating.
