So far, it is understood thab no communication has been yet received by Mr Northcroft, S.M., from the Government or from the Minister ot Justice, informing him of his appointment to conduct the inquiry into the circumstances attending the recent fire at the Avondale Asylum. It is stated, however, that Mr Northcroffc haß been informed of the matter by Dr. McGregor, Inspector General of Asylums, and thab it has been lefb to him to tix a date for the inquiry aa may be convenient to himself. Captain Hannah will probably be required to come up from Wellington to give evidence in connection with the efficiency of the mains and valves on the Government section of piping from the Spring 3to the Auxiliary Asylum.
We have been requested to state that the scores.ot the Auckland polo team in the matches at Christchurch were wrongly reported in the telegrams received through the Press Association. In the match Auckland v. Christchurch, Auckland secured 2 goals, nob 1 as telegraphed; while in the match Auckland y. Warrengate, the scores were Auckland; 5, Warrengate 2, nob Auckland 4, Warrengate 3, as telegraphed.
