(BY TELEGRAPH.r—OWN. CORRESPONDENT.)
Wellington, fchisdoy. * Mr Coleman Phillips, writing in Saturday's " Post," calls attention to tbs injustice of the recent combination of steamship companies fcokeepup a high rate of freighb from this colony. He".says' New Zealand produce is placed at a disadvantage in competing with Australian produce on account of additional 20s to 30s per ton charged on New Zealand produce, compared with rates from othor colonies. He says the cry in Auckland is '* We can do nothing so long as high rate of freight continues." He suggests -that either bhis combination should be dissolved, or bhab -jno North German Lloyds or French Messagerios should be asked to. enter into competition.
