A CROWN WITNESS PROSECUTED,

At the Police Courb to-day, before Mr R S Bush, S.M., the youth Grainger, who wa« a Crown witness in the Bowden perjury cases: was charged on the information of Thomas Kerwin with having committed oerjury in the hearing of a certain* intormation laid against the informant on the 10th day of January at the sitting of the Magistrates -Court:held at Auckland on the 12th -insc. by swearing to the effect:-!: That on thenighb of the 29th day of' August, 1894, between the hours of 10 arid 11 o'clock pirn, he, the -arid {Tames Grairigeiy -was near Lauds pork butcher's shop, aria saw two cabs coming vp 1" the^ street; Abraham Bowden .ttas driving one and William Dawson was-dr^-ingtheother. Mr Brassey said ho would apply tor a remand for eight days. Mr Cooper eaid he would objecb to any remand. This was a private prosecution and the peculiar circumstances under which the information had been laid rendered a remand objectionable and unnecessary. It was ultimately agreed to adjourn the case till Friday. As the accused was already bound over to appear at th« next sitting of the Supremo Court. The bail was enlarged.
