NOTICES OF MOTION.

At the next meeting of bhe City Council, the following notices of motion will come before the members :—

Cr. Farrell to move : " That a Special Committee (of say six in number) be appointed to consider and report upon the beab mebhod of more efficiently conducting works in bhe engineer's department, wibh a view of reducing the presenb large expenditure of the Council, so thab such expenditure shall not in fuburo exceed bhe annual income. (a) The advisability of terminating the prcsen. system of day labour, and substituting letbinc by small contracts of all works now performed by such day labour, (b) To consider the cost to the Council of and incidental to the Fire Brigade, and mako such recommendations (if ony) as may appear necessary, (c) That the Committee have power to examine all or any of bhe officials of the Council, so aa to aaaisb in giving such information aa the Commibtee may deem necessary. Cr. Garrett fco move: That tho men recently diacharged from the Council's employ be reinstated, and the work so apportioned that each man pubs in an equal number of working hours por week during the winter months.
