COUNTY COUNCIL MEETING,

RIFLE MATCH.

Hamilton, Friday. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Waikato Oqunby Council was held to-day. There we.re present: Messrs Primrose (Chairman), Seddon, Coates, Johnson, Bailey and W. A. Gane. The petition from Huntly praying for the formation of a Road Board was received, and being in order co far as regarded the number of signatures, the prayer of the petitioners was granted, and the clerk was instructed to take the necessary steps to have the road district gazetted. It is now many months since the preliminary Btepa were taken for this purpose, and after many vexatious delays the petitioners are to be congratulated on their success. The clerk announced that Mr A. W. Gane had been elected to fill the vacancy in the representation of the Cambridge Riding, caused by the resignation of Mr G. E. Clark. Nothing was done with regard to the taking over of the main roads by tbe Council, tho latter having years since delegated their power ever these roads to the various Boards, and they now wißh to reßume. tho control to which the Boards object. The matter was postponed until the next monthly meeting. To-day a team of tbe South Franklin Mounted Infantry arrived to try conclusions with our Volunteers on the Rifle Range. The match was commenced, and the results so far are :—2OO Yards : Hamilton Light! Infantry, 177 ; South Franklin, 182. Bandmaster Mettam (20) and F. Thomas (20) were the highest scorers for Hamilton. Lieutenant Jialkey (19) and W. Adams (19) were the highest for Franklin ; five Bhots each. The match will be concluded to-morrow morning at 300 yards, 400 yards and 500 yards. The visiting team were entertained at Buxton's Royal Hotel by the Hamilton Volunteers, and enjoyed an evening's sociability. Three cases of diphtheria were received into the Hospital to-day from Te Awamutu where colds are rampant.
