Auckland horses are well represented in tbe New Zealand Grand National Steeplechase entries, for Despised, Bombardier Crazy Kate, Salute and Fishmonger have been entered. Fright, Despised and St. Kilda are among the Grand National Hurdle entries. The last named is said to be a capital jumper. Captain Russell and tbe Hon. J. D. Ormond have been elected delegates to represent the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club at the racing conference in Wellington in July. It is Pounamu and not Culloden that Mr Gollan has sent back from his Melbourne establishment to be spelled on his Hawke's Bay station. If numbers count for much the Melbourne Cnp ot 1894 ought to be won by one of tbe five-year old division, as an analysis of the entries will show thab tbe lot nominated which will have arrived at that age at the time of running is 40. The-four-year-olds number 33, and the threes 31, while 18 will hava reached the six-year-old stage. Thus are 122 accounted for, leaving 13 to represent the aged collection. With Bdt 91b in the saddle, Mr L. D. Nathan's cold Three Star ran fourth in the Two-year-old Handicap at the A.J.C. Winter Meeting on Saturday last. He started at 7 to 1. Mr W. Kelso's colt Attachment (7st7lb) by Clievdon—Affection proved the winner. The Hawke's Bay Jockey Club delegate at the next conference will bring forward a proposed alteration in the rules of racing that will no doubt be strongly opposed by the Auckland Racing Club, viz., Rule 39, that the following words be added, "and no Sbeeplcchase shall be run from the 15th November to the 30th April." A cablegram has been received stating that Norton has been awarded 12st 121b in the V.R.C. Grand National Steeplechase, his apportionment in the Hurdle Race being 12ab 41b, while Kulnine has 12st 7lb. Mr S. H. Gollan has lost a foal by Malua from Tiraillerie. The youngster was foaled dead and was a monstrosity, having teeth several inches long. Monte Carlo's prospects for the New Zealand Cup are apparently highly thought of in Wanganui. Mr A. Boyle has accepted the position of permanent starter to the Canterbury Jockey Club. Whalebone, who put his fetlock out while running in the Wanganui Steeplechase, is making as rapid a recovery as can be expected from the effects of tbe accident. Mr J. B. Reid has sold Dilemma to M. Allan. The son of Rubezahl has been a great disappointment to Mr Reid eince he finished second to St. Hippo for tbe New Zealand Cup of 1892.
