OPENING PERFORMANCE TO-NIGHT.

The curtain descended at the Opera House on Saturday nighb on varieby enberbaiomenb, and goes op again this evening on realiabio, sensational drama. We have nob had sensational drama of the same type as "True as Steel," with which tbe Howe - Bpong Company opens bo - nighb, since Mr Bland Holb lefb us, co our appetite for tbab species of theatrical amusement is keen once more. Thab ib will be abundantly satisfied by tbe present organisation we have every reason bo believe from the favourable press oobiees whioh we have seen of bbc performances in the Soubh. Of one actor only can we speak from personal recollection. Mr Howe, it will be remembered, played leading parts in Bland Holt's Company, sharing with Mr Baker and Mr Holt the chief honours which fell bo tbe male porbion of tbe Company, Of Miss Spong, whose name is bracketed in large type with thab of Mr Howa on tho bills, repute speaks very highly. Of her acting we shall be able bo pronounce a verdict bo-night. Of her personal attractions we can pronounce one now. Sbe hae decidedly one of tbe mosb beautiful faces we have seen, and has a figure fall ot grace. If she acts half as woll as she looks, she will score an immense success. The name of Mr Spong ia a guarantee for magnificent scenery. Mr Spong is known as one of the first of scene painters in the Australian colonies. There were some examples of his work in the scenes of the Brough and Bouoicsnlb Company. In tbo class of dramas which bis Company intend bo run here, there is excellent scope afforded him for the display of his arb, and from all we learn he has taken advanbaee of ib. Albogebber, we anbicipabe for the public plenty of high-class amusement, and for the Company a successful season.
