A SERIOUS CHARGE.
Richard L awson Williams appeared ab the Police C 'ourb this morning before Mr H. W. Northern )fb, S.M., bo answer the charge of having, i \t Takapuna, on the 30th of April, asaaul ited and wounded with intent to do griovoi is bodily harm a man named Charles Deoi ing by striking him with a four-pronged fork. Sergeant (}i imble asked for a remand, as tho wounded man had nob been examined by a medics ,1 man to ascertain the extent of bhe injui ies inflicted. Ib was alleged thab bhe del tendanb had wounded bhe complainant wil ;h a fork. The accuj sod was remanded unbil the 9th of May. The facts of the case are thac late yesterday ' afternoon news was received by telephone f rom Lake Takapuna that a man had been v /ounded. Detective Chrystal ab once wem ) over to make inquiries. The wounded man, Charles Deering, is a gardeneri a the employ of Mr E. Harrow. On Suiida' y morning, ib is alleged thab Deering took (exception to the manner in which Williams was treating hjs wife, and upon remonstr siting with him, was ordered bo leave the defendant's premises. Yesterday William: 5 was working in the garden of a Mrs Day is, and Deering and another man named 1 ?ercy Lipscombe were driving past in a tra{ >. Deering gob oub of the, trap and went bo speak to Williams, who, ib is alleged, b! hsn committed the assault. Lipscombe, : seeing his friend lying unconscious on bhe g round, wenb to his assistance. He found tl aab Deering had a wound a-quarter of an in^ch long near the temple on bhe lefb side of his head. Williams assisted him to wash tl le blood from tho wounded man's face, tmd when Deering recovered, cobeciouan ess he was driven borne.
