FURTHER CORRESPONDENCE WITH
THE GOVERNMENT.

Wellington, this day. Tx a letter to the Premier the Midland Railway Company say if is their desire to meet the views of the Government in every way consistent with the possiblity of raising money for the completion of the line from the East to the West Coast. They cannot, however, satisfy the Government that they are, or will be in a position to complete the Belgrove-Reef ton section, being convinced that nothing short of an absolute guarantee of interest by the Government would be sufficient. They believe the intention of the resolution is that they should -how by Btatemenc from a good tinancial house tbat they can raise the capittal necessary to connect the two coasts. Negotiations will be carried oa meanwhile on tbat understanding.
