THE PREMIER'S TOUR.
(BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.)
Omapere, thia day. Thi* Premier waß interviewed ab Raweno by a number of settlera who prayed for Government assistance to improve the roads. The Premier said ib wa_ evident bhat the cosb of administering the affairs of the Council was far greater than the expenditure in maintaining roads, tie thoughb the Governmenb would have bo consider the advisability of re-introducing tho rating of Crown Lands, or abolishing a number of local bodies, and go in for consolidation. This scheme was very favourably received. The deputation said unoccupied native land was greatly retarding settlement in the district. The Premier assured them thab bhis difficulty would not exist much longer. The party then embarked on the steamer Te Aroha, being accorded a hearty farewell by tho Rawene residents. A pleasant hour's brip brought the travellers to Omapere, whence they left on horseback in the afternoon for Kawakawa, 16 miles distant.
