AUCKLAND COLLEGE AND GRAMMAR SCHOOL.

The usual mooting of the members of bhe Auckland College and Grammar School was held yesterday afternoon. Present : Colonel Haultaiu (Acbing Chairman), who presided, aud Mr J. J. Holland (the Mayor), Mr R. Udy, and the Rev. C. M. Nelson.

Scholarships. — A letter was read from the Board of Education, relative to bho offer of tho Board of Governors to givo the privilege of freo tuition ab the Grammar School bo tho first four candidates who gained certificates of proficiency at bhe late annual examination for the junior districb scholarships. John S. Doull, of bhe Ponsonby school, and John Ingram, of Avondale, accepted tho offer, bub Frances R. Clark, of Onehunga, and Catherine Empen, of the Lako school, declined tho tuition. The privilege was then offered to Florence Wilson of Newton East, fifth on bhe lisb. This young lady accepted the tuition. For the next position Arthur E. H. Skelton, of Newton Easb, and Emily Bongard, of Devonporb were equal, and bhe Board of Education suggested bhat under the circumstances bhe Governors would extend the privilege of free tuition to bobh of them.-— Ib was decided bo grant bhe requesb of bho Board.

An Application.—Mr John Brown wrote that two of hi* children, J. F. and M. B. Brown, gained junior foundation scholarships at the iate examination at the Grammar School. Ho said as they resided at Epsom, fully three miles from the school, and had to pay the sum of 45a por annum each to reach school, he asked tho Board to granb them travelling expenses.—Thia was agreed to by the Board. Luncheon at Grammar School.—An application from Mr Tooley, the janitor, for the Board to assisb in finding cooking utensils to enable him to provide a hot luncheon for tho scholars was refused, owing to the small number of scholars app*y*nK- . ~ . Fidelity Guarantee.—An application from bhe Secretary for tho Board to pay his fidelity guarantee premium amounting to £1 10s a year was granted. All of the members spoke in favour of the application.
