The Newton Excelsior Band of Hope held their opening meeting of the winter session last evening, in the schoolroom, Edinburghstreet, when the following excellent programme was rendered before a large and appreciative audience of members and friends :—Pianoforte duet, Misses Hamer-. ton ; recitation, Master Farr ; song, Miss Patty Wood ; recitation, Miss Heighway ; selection, orchestra; recitation, Mies W. Rowe ; song, Mr A. Rowe, jnr. ; recitation, Miss L. Kuapman ; song, Miss Eva Wood ; recitation. Master Beuth ; recitation, Miss Eva Aspinall; song, Mr A. Rowe, senr. ; recitation, Master Zante Wood. During the evening Mr A. Rowe senr., the newlyappointed Secretary, delivered a very interesting and helpful address to the membra on "Our pledge and how to keep it."
