POLITICAL POINTS.

Country candidates for Parliamentary seats are at present busily engaged in addressing their constituents. In tho Franklin electorate, Major B. Harris addressed a large J meeting of residents ab Mangere last night, and received a vote of thanks. An amendment of a vote of thanks and confidence was seconded by Mr Paul, the father-in-law of Mr Muspey, Major Harris' opponenb, the "mistake" creating great amusement. Major Harris has also addressed favourable meetings this week at Otara, Howick and Pakuranga. In the Bay of Islands electorate Mr Houston addressed the Ohoeawai electors on the Bth inst., and received a unanimous vote of thanks and confidence.

Mr T. Thompson addresses the elecborS of Auckland City in the City Hall this evening, at 8 o'clock. A special invitation is extended to ladies to attend.

This afternoon Mr W. S. Allen addressed a meeting of Parnell lady electors in the Public Hall, Parnell. To-nighb he will address a public meeting of Parnell electors in the same place.

It was announced in the city to-day that Mr C. E. Button, the well-known solicitor, intended to cont>©. jta city seat at the coming general elecbion, under the auspices of the National Association. On approaching Mr Button to-day, a representative of the Star was informed that he (Mr Button) would not stand unless assured of substantial support.

Notwithstanding the statement that Mr T. Peacock had declined to stand for the city, the report was again in circulation to-day, and it is understood thab a strong effort will be made to induce thab gentleman to come out; on the Opposition ticket.
