ALLEGED CATTLE STEALING.

New Plymouth, this day. A report is current here that two young men, riding home ab night from Hawera, passed two masked men on horseback driv ing a mob of cattle. They spoke to the men and followed them, whereupon, the men becoming frightened ab persistent attention deoamped, and the young men took charge of the cabbie and paddocked them at daybreak. On looking ab tho cattle, the reporb states, one young man recognised the animals as the property of his father. The police at Hawera have been informed of the circumstances.
