AUCKLAND HARBOUR BOARD.

The ordinary meeting ot the Auckland Harbour Board was held, this afternoon. Mr W. Crowther {the Chairman) presided.

Finance and Legal Committee.— This Committee recommended :—That the Lybtelton Harbour Board bo informed that upon tho arrival of Dredger No. 121 from Melbourne, this Board is prepared to lease the same for a term of six or twelve (12) month* at a rental of two hundred pounds (£200) per month. The Lyttelton Harbour Board to pay all cost of insurance up to £20,000, to take delivery oi and return the dredger in Auckland Harbour when directed, and to keep and maintain the dredger and gear four years in good order and condition. That the conditions of leasing and draft leaee for reserve in Shoal Bay be approved. That the consideration of letter to Admiralty, re Calliope Dock, be deferred.

Dredging Operations.—Capt. Burgess, Chief Harbourmaster, reported with reference to a abatement which appeared in the daily newspapers re dredging operations ab inside (westward) of the .Railway Wharf Breastwork. Mr Burgess*,etated that the fact of largo atones being found alongside the breastwork is nob a new thing, as he had made reports on the matter in the years 1876, 1879 and 1891. Birkenhkap Wharf.—A communication was read from Mr C. E. Button, Mayor of Birkenhead, stating that as the Board did not seem to see their way clear to affecting the suggested reclamation ab the Birktmhead wharf, that a simple retaining wall at the foot of the slip be constructed to-pre-vent the scour of the surf taking the land into, and thus silting up the harbour. Mr G. N. Brassey also wrote drawing attention to a resolution of the Board on the 23rd of May laat that the necessary repairs to and in connection with the Northcobe Wharf be effected. He said that nothing had been done towards repairing the reclamation which was gradually washing away and would soon become a complete wreck. He asked thab the repairs in connection with the Northcote reclamation be undertaken at once.—The matter was referred to the Works and Tariff Committee to report. Dredging.—Tho manager of the Pacific Coast Dredging and Reclamation Co., San FrancißCO, wrote giving information in relation to dredging as requested. He said thab the cost ot a powerful dredger to do the work required by the Board would be aboub 75,000 dollar?. Mr Porter said that if the Board had funds, it would be advantageous to carry oub dredging work in Auckland harbour as suggested in the report.
