TIE GENERAL ELECTION-

The Rev. E. 0. Perry, who is a candidate for Eden, will address the electors in Sb. George's Hall next Monday evening, on current political topics. The Auckland Women's Christian Temperance Union has decided to hold weekly instead of fortnighbly meetings in future, and alao to geb suitable apeakers to deliver short addresses on temperance, and other " burning quostions " of the day, for the political education of women. The temperance party are making a house-to-house canvass throughout the city, in order to ascortain that all women qualified to vote are enrolled as electors, and to, as far as possible, gain a knowledge of those favourable to prohibition. The Women's Christian Temperance Union is giving assistance to the work of canvaßßing. Mr Bush has been appointed Returning Officer for Manukau, Mr C. B. Gilmer for Eden, and Mr George Robertehaw for Parnell. Mr R. Monk is addressing tho electors in various parts of the Waitomata electorate. Mr W. S. Allen is still spoken of as a possible candidate for Auckland City. A meeting of the liquor trade'generally will be held shortly in order togdincusa the selection of candidates for the general eloctions for Aucklaud City, Buburban and country districts.
