ATHLETIC CARNIVAL AND CONCERT.
Abbott's Opera Houeo was crowded to tho doors last evening on tho occasion of tho annual gymnastic carnival and concert eivon by Professor Carrollo, the popular instructor in athletics, his pupils and friends. Tho gymnastic performances wero most interesting, and sorvod to demonstrate in a very practical manner the success of Mr Carrollo's instruction m athletics and feats of skill. The musical items with which tho gymnastic exhibitions wero interspersed were also excellent. Arnongsctho athletic performances by Mr Carrollo and his pupils wore a scries of dumb-bell exorcises to music, a grand march of the pupils, hoavy Indian club exercise, vaulting tho military horse, a three-bar performance by Professor Garrollo and ten senior pupils, parallel bar work, Romun rings display, a display by and Indian club squad, and a fencing bout between Mr F. VV. Edwards ond Mr 0. J. White. The various exercises wero given a mosb picturesque oilecb by means of limolighb. In the concorr. Mias Lizzie Warren and Mr W. H. Steobing contributed tho vocal items, giving a dnet, "Tho Sailor Sighs," while Miss Warren sang two solos, " Star of Love " and "In Venice." Mr Stebbinsr sang " Balaclava and " Thoy all Lovo Jack." Herr Zimmermaun played some most effective violinsolos. Tho orchestra wan led by Mr A. Eady, and Mr Triphook actod as pianist.
