TUB INSTITUTE OF JOURNALISTS.
(BY TELEGRAPH.—I'EESS ASSOCIATION)
Wellington, this day, The annual meeting of the New Zealand Institute of Journalists was held on Satur. day. The report and balance-sheet showed the Institute to be in a satisfactory position. The President, Vice-president, and officers of the Institute were re-elected! Our Wellington correspondent says the annual meeting was a inosfc pleasing function, though members had to do other than congratulate themselves upon their success in two important directions, the Libel Bill and the Institute of Journalists Bill. Th ß President, Mr Gillon, howorer, held out strong hopes of the passage of the latter during the next session. He read an invitation gent by the English Instituto to attend the annual conference in London, and remarked thab the statues in the old country and New Zealand, and the treatment meted out to pressmen, seemed to ba widely different. The New Zealand Instituto, however, had made substantial advances. Thanks were passed to all members of both Houses who had voted for tbs Institute Bill.
