IOLANTHE QUADRILLE ASSEMBLY.

The annual plain and fancy dress ball in connection with the lolanthe Quadrille Assembly eventuated in tho Choral Hali on Friday evening last, and proved one of the most successful affairs of the season. The building was taxed to its utmost capacity to provide accommodation for the spectators and dancers, and there were many who were unable to gain admission so great was tho gathering. The galleriea at either end of the hall were densely packed, and considering the crowded state of the floor it was surprising how locomotion whs arrived at. The interior of tho building was very tastefully decorated, and with the bright and fanciful coatumes gave the Eceno a very animated appearance. There were very fevv of those who participated in the dancing in plain dresses and a greab deal of originality was displayed in the attires worn. There were en evidence representatives of every nationality and grades of life, and the great diversity of colouring made tho composite body all the more brilliant and bewildering. The floor was in oxcellent condition, and the music supplied by Mr McComish's band left nothing to be desired. The catering, always an indispenoable adjunct, was in the hands of Mr Phillips who gave every satisfaction. The Committee consisting of Messrs Cleal, Fowlor, Good and Potts, was very small compared to the inagnitudo of tho undertaking, and the success of the whole affair was entirely due to the admirable preparation of the above gentlemen.
