WAIKATO NOTES.

(BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.)

Hamilton, bhis day.

MEMORIAL TO JOHN McNICOL. At an informal meebing, held yesterday ab Ohaupo, ib was resolved unanimously bhab consideration of the form that the memorial should take be postponed till the first week in May, when a meebing of the Waikato Agricultural and Pastoral Association Committee takes place, and a large gathering of sebtlersmay beexpecbed. Many and various schemes aro proposed, amongst others building a wing to tho Waikato Hospital, bub this not being required meets wibh little support, and the idea of such a thing builb in wood boing a permanent rememberance is bhought to be absurd.^ The general consensus of opinion is thab nothing bub a stone monument should be gone in for, something that will lasb for all bime.

So far no definite committee haa been appoinbad, and ib is just as well to delay the matter for a time, to allow all sides of the quesbion being argued oub. THE WEATHER. Heavy rain fell all over the district for tho last forby-eighb hours, and bhe roads aro in a bad state, but no damage to roada or bridges are reported. ROAD BOARD NOMINATIONS. For tho Kirikiriroa Road Board, fiva nominations were received for the three seats, viz., Messrs Gordon, White, McLean, Edgecumbe, and Chittv. The returning officer sbates that Mr Edgecumbe's nomination is informal, as he was not on the roll, though application had been received asking to have his-hame substituted for that of Mr Claude some weeks since. There is likely to be some trouble over the matter, as a keen contest is expected, and objections may be made. DEATH OF MR JOHN MARTYN. Mr John Marbyn, of Hautapu, who is well-known in bhe Waikabo, passed away peacefully ab his residence, Torr View, ab eleven o'clock on Wednesday forenoon, at) bhe ripe old age of 81.
