A.B.C. SECOND SPRING MEETING. The opening day of the Auckland Racing Club's Second Spring Meeting on Wednosdny 1 a3h provided some capital racing, but the disagreeable weather spoiled all enjoyment, and tho attendance of the public, too. However, tbe Club came out very weli considering all things, and with anything like a fair attendance at the second day's racing next Wednesday they will make ends meet. Major George was the most successful owner, for he annexed tho Prince of Wales Handicap and Welcome Stakes, the two leading items on the card. Harry Harrison had Coalscuttle in great nick, and Golding nursing the maro like a true artist throughout the journey landed hor a comfortable winner at the finish. Lottie ran a rattling good mare and further proved that when started in a race, with a medium weight, she is entitled to every respect. In the President's Handicap Lottie scored a bloodless victory, and the distance appeared just to her liking. It will be remembered that at the Onslow Farewell Meeting held in January last Lottie beat Tit and St. Hippo at even weights in the Lima's .Handicap. Taken all round, the two-year-olds which were saddled up for tbe Welcome Stakes were nob a badlooking lot, bub the racehorse of the party was Pegasus, who appears to possess all the courage of his sire, and ia built on the lines of a colt that will develop into a Derby horse. Royal Rose was suffering from cold, and was not seen at his best. Sb. Clements proved himself a fast horse, and it was indeed an excellent performance to run five furlongs with Bsb 101b in the saddle, and through mud, in lmin ssec. Mr W Porcival own 9 the mother of Satanella, who is evidently happily mated with St. Leger. 1 was fully prepared to see Tit run a great race in the Guineas, bub I did nob think that ehe was capable of defeating Brown Alice | at evan weights. Tit's victory was a surprise to the public, who supported Mr Morrin's mare in a haarty manner. The Hurdle Race turned out a match between Fishmonger and Belmont, Mr Hayr's horse securing the honours, but had the riders been reversed I think the result would have been different. The concluding event of the day ended in Warrior demonstrating his pace by defeating the brillianb St. Clements. Warrior is in great form this season and promises to jaaalto amends for his many previous disappointments. The second day's racing is fixed to take place next Wednesday. With a capital programme to place before the public, free admission to the course and an afternoon's holiday to boot, a good attendance should be the result.
