This afternoon Police Detective Hughes arrested a train conductor, in the employ <jf xMessrs Paterson and Co., named Albert Tate, on a charge of larceny as a bailee of a purse containing 18s, the -property of Catherine Inhes. Mrs Innes dropped the burse in a tramear recently, and it is alleged thab another lady picked it up and E ave it to the conductor, who is now charged with appropriating the contents to h.3 own use. Tho Hon. R. Seddon, Minister'for Defence and Public Works, arrived in town thia afternoon by train from Te Aroba accompanied by his private secretary and Colonel Fraser, Ivi.H.R. He leaves for Wellington to-morrow.
