[A Middlemarch contributor, «R.N. who (has seen our advertisement calling for conundrums, acrostics, etc., for a Golden Waterbury contest, sends us an acrostic, which will appear in the final selection, and the following two riddles which are not up toour weight ;-rr- '~,,. ' f , (1) " Why is the Waterbury watch hue a newly born child ?" "Because it cannot be.beaten.".,,,~_, ...,, t (2) rf* Why arp Waterbury watches }\ke Scotchmen?" " Because they are found all over the World." . Amongst the hosts of really clever things received, many contributors *of capital •* copy " have to be passed over. To such we can only say we shall again invite similar effusions next season, and any stray idea 'that may flash upon them in the interim may be noted and laid aside till needed..
