Last Monday evening tho usual weekly meeting of Sb. John's Wesleyan Mutual Improvement Association took place in the schoolroom, Ponsonby, the Rev. C. H. Laws (president), being in the chair. The subject for the evening was "Is Absolute Prohibition the Nexb Besb Move for bhe Temperance Party ?" It was opened in the affirmative by Mr Benton, the negative side being taken by Mr Tregaskis. A lively discussion followed by the members, and on a show of hands being taken at the close the majority came out for the negative side. The musical items were a pianoforte solo by Mr H. Simmonds, And a pianoforte duet by the Misses Goodacre.
