, justices.) Drunkenness.—Joseph Winter was fined 10s or 48 hours' hard labour for being drunk on Saturday.- He was also charged with having assaulted Thomas Coldridge by striking him in the face. Prisoner pleaded nob guilty .—Thomas Coldridge deposed that he saw prisoner drinking in the Anchor Hotel. Witness asked him for some money towards the support of a child which was found on the footpath and left with witness' wife by they Charitable Aid Board. Witness had only received £6 from the accused id" three years towards the support of the child. When he asked for money witness struck him in the eye, and it was so bad that it had to be stitched at the Hospital.— Other witnesses also g.,ve. evidence regarding the assault.—Prisoner waß sentenced to 30 days' imprisonment; with hard labour. Fout Chimney.—Ah Long was fined 10s and costs for allowing the chimney of his house in Wakefield-street to take fire. A Young Horse.—John Harcourbpleaded guilty to having driven a horse at other than a walking pace round the corner of Chancery Lane and High - street.— Defendant pleaded guilty, and stated febe cause was a young leader that he could nob control.—Mr Goldie appeared for the City Council and stated that he witnessed the occurrence, which nearly caused an accident with a cab.—A fine of 20s, and costs. 7s, was imposed. Horse-stealing. — Frederick Sydney Joseph Ellis, alias C. H. Ellis, was charged with having on the 4th of June ab Waipiro stolen one horse belonging to David MeGuire. — Prisoner pleaded guilty. — Inspector Broham said the prisoner had been arrested on telegraphic information. He asked chat he be remanded to Gisborne. — The. remand was granted, bail being allowed in two sureties of £25 each. :
