BAND OF HOPE MEETING.
AN interesting gathering of members of BW i 6 UHd- Otahu*>» Bands of Hope took OtVh v malifc in the temperance Hall, thT . lhere was a large attendance of thl ge,ne.ral Public. Jones; songs by Mr rial] Mr Ferguson and obhor members of ■ie Bllevslie Band. A well-acted dialogue t>y the Ellcrslie friends met with considerable appkuse, and bhe meeting closed with a vote of thanks to those who had so ably assisted in tho success of bhe evening. The Sir Henry Havelock Band of Hopo hold the second of their celobratod winter evening entertainments in the schoolroom, which wa3 packed to bhe doors. The vicepresident^ Mr D. Goldie, occupied tho chair.^ Miss B. Cox playod a pretty piano selection, and aba later stage in the evoning contributed a recitation. "The children or the Drink" was capitally sung by Mrs Collings, Sho was followed by Mr Barrett, who contributed several items during tho evening. Mr Prottijohn, of H.M.s. Ringarooma, related a number of anecdotes, and recited " The House that Jack Built," and in response to an encore, ho gavo " The London Swell." "The Cofl'eo -Quarrel,''a recitation illustrating domestic unpleasantness, was capitally rendered by Miss Eva Bullen. Miss E. Moon was also very good, and the same applies to Miss MeKenzie (Pitb and Edwin streets). Miss Miles and Miss Heart contributed largely to the success of the meeting by their pretty solos. "Dr. Quack and Ilia Patients," by Mis 3S. Freer and three friends, brought a most successful meebing bo a close. A meed of praiso is due to Mr W. J. Jafirey, who, in the absence of the secretary, arranged tho wholo of the programme. Miss Lily Collings acted as pianiate.
