PRINTERS' PICNIC.

The picnic hold at St. Holier . Bay on April 2nd in connection with the printing, lithographing and bookbinding trades of Auckland proved, as anticipated, to be a most successful outing. Impey'sßra.s Band was present on the picnic ground, and played some excellent operatic selections and dance music during the afternoon, and on the return trip to town in the p.s. Eagle. The sports were carefully and successfully carried out under the direction of an energetic Committee, including -ir James Regan (President of the" Auckland Typographical Association), olr Joseph Graham and Mr W. Jennings. A number of valuable donations and prizes wero recoived from the master printers of Auckland and others for tho afternoon's races. The running contests resulted as follows : — Handicap Maiden Race, 150 yds.— Brc.kcs won the first heat, Pooley the seeon 1, while tho final was finished : Wilson, 1 ; Pooley, 2; Drummond, 3, V<-U>-i: Ladies' Race, 75yds.—Miss Tho io, 1 ; Miss Dodd, 2 ; Miss Sindlen, 3. Association Handicap.—The first heat of this event, 100 yds, was won by McCarthy. the second by Onyon, and the final by McCarthy. Tho'2ooyds heat was won by McCarthy, and the oOOycis race resulted :-McCarthy, 1; Roberts, 2. The result, counted according to points, was : —McCarthy (three firsts, 15 points), 1 ; Roberts (two seconds 0 points), 2; Newbegin (one second, 5 points). 3. Three-legged Race, 100yds.—Roberts nnd Wilson, 1; Purvey and Lyman, 2; U ilson and Onyon, 3. Galley Race, 100yds.—Three teams, four men in each team, competed in this event, which was won by Roberts' team, wiih Harvey's second, and RaJclifi'e's team third. Aitkentick.T Race, 150 yards. — Webster, 1 : Wilson, 2 ; Ncwbegin, 3. T.u-oe-Wai:. —After several very keen (contest-, in which the printers proved themseivf s possessed of rather more wind and muscle than they are usually credited with, tho tug-of-war Mas carried off by the conbined oi'ocos, with the " Herald " second and ihe Star oliice third. O-AKTEF. Mile Handicap.—Roberts, 1; Wilson, 2: Drummond, 3. Committee Men's Race, 150 yards.— Tibbutt, 1: IT Wright, 2; Carnahan and Haslam tied for third place.
