FIRE AT WAIKOMITI.
About ono o'clock yesterday morning a tiro occurred ab VVaikoiriti, which resulted in tho complete destruction of a two-roomed cottage aud its contents. The cottage was situated about four miles from the railway station. It was owned by Mrs Little, and occupied by her two sons, who were employed in the neighbourhood cutting firewood and posts. It appears that one ot the oocupants left a kerosene lamp on the table while he wenb to the stable to see how a sick horse was getting on. Shortly afterwards he heard noise of an explosion,and on goingtothocottage and opening tho door, he found it full of smoke and baroly had time to awaken his brother from his slumbers. The cottage and its contents wero insured in tho Phoenix Fire Oliice for £50, but it is estimated the owner and occupants of the cottage will loso another £50 or £60 by the fire.
