THE FLOODS IN THE SOUTH.
(by telegraph.—press association.)
Invercargill, this day. On Tuesday an immense quantity of rain fell in the Lumsden district. The township was inundated for a time, some damage being done bo the gardens, stores, and dwellings. The Dome Bridge, on the Kingston line, was partially washed out, and it will probably be a week before traffic is possible over it.
Dctnedin, this day.
The damage to the railway line on the Taieri section has been sufficiently repaired to allow of trains running. On the Outram line, however, the water is still three feet deep on the railway line. The water on the plain is rapidly subsiding, and by Saturday probably some idea of the damage may bo gathered.
