Goneral regret will be caused in xnercan- j tilo circles in New Zealand by the intelligence, which has just been received, oi the 1 death of Mr Graham, of the firm of Connell, Hogarth, and Co., of Melbourne, who was well-known throughout this colony. Commencing as a clerk and subsequently acting as traveller for the firm named, Mr Graham rose to the position of a partner, and in due course the management of the Melbourne business devolved upon him. The Melbourne "Argus" in notifying his death says : "In his relations with the commercial men of the city he established for him- '• self a reputation of sterling uprightness and ability. Though public affairs did not engage his attention, he was identified with many movements for the advancement of trade, and was particularly interested . in the Chamber of Commerce. Hi 3 death will be a serious deprivation to that body. ; Before leaving for England he was appointed a delegate to the International Conference of Chambers of Commerce, which was to have been held in London, but which was postponed. On the eve of his departure also a large number of city men assembled at Scott's Hotel, under the presidency of Mr Service, M.L.C., to bid him farewell, and the high position he had attained was made the subject of very laudatory comment. Mr Graham's surviving partners are Mr John Connell. sen., Mr J. A. Connell, and Mr W. McVitty. He leaves a widow, at present in London, but no family."
