HARBOUR BOARD.

The ordinaiymceting of the Harbour Board was held yesterday afternoon. Present: Messrs Niccol (chairman), Savage, Butcher, Crowther, Dignan, Houghton, Witheford, Wright, Alison, McMillan, Henderson.

Omnibus Traffic—Messrs Morley and Sons wrote asking whether there was any by-law to prevent their 'buses going on the Victoria Wharf.—The Chairman said there was no by-law to prevent omnibuses going down the wharf, but it was desirable that the practice should be stopped.—Referred to the Works Committee.

New Member.—Mr C. S. Wright, successor to Mr J. H. Upton (resigned), wa3 welcomed and took his seat.

Swimming Spokts. — Permission was given to the Auckland Swimming Club to use the Auckland Graving Dock on Saturday, February 13th, for swimming sports, on the usual conditions.

Storage on Goods.—Several mercantile firms requested the Board to remit storage upon goods ex Ohau last trip, unless such goods were allowed to remain in the wharf sheds after Monday, the 4th' inst., the holidays having prevented delivery of all goods being taken while the aheds were open.—The request was granted. Dredger 121.—A letter from the Victorian Department of Public Works was read as follows :—" To Captain Burchell: Sir, —As agent for Auckland Harbour Board, I beg to inform yon that this Department now takes formal possession of dredge 121, and to state that chis dredge, not being in accordance with description, tho Government of Victoria holds the Board liable for all necessary expenditure on the machino in excess of thab which a reasonable interpretation of the agreement nnd correspondence indicated."—Referred to Works Committee.

Timber Booms. — Messrs Mnoklow Brothers asked for a roduction of the charge made for timber booms at Mechanics' Bay. —Declined.

Dock Sued.—A petition from twentynine shipwrights requested permission to keep their tool chests in tho dock as hitherto.—Referred to Works Committee.

Works and Tariff Committee.—The report of the Works and Tariff Committee was adopted, one of the recommendations being to. obtain an estimate of cost for electric-lighting the wharves on this side of the harbour. New Works.—Tho Foreman of Works submitted plans, etc., with estimate of cost for shed, etc.,on Northcote ferry jetty, £200, and for shod at Calliope Dock £175.—Tbe matter was rcforred to tho Works Committee for their report. Port Charges.— By permission of the Board, a notice of motion by the Chairman, to permit the pilot in charge to berth vessels without remission of the Har-bour-master's fees, was referred <o the Legal.Committee, some doubt boing felt as to the effect of passing such a resolution.
