FISHERIES CONSERVATION.

(To the Editor.)

Sir,—With regard to tho above prosecution which took piaco yesterday, and the customary vigilance on the part of tho police, would it not have been better to have punished the " actual fisherman " who caught tho fish instead of tho hawker or rotail dealpr, as Inspector Brohnm states that tho water police " take care that the fishermen know tho regulations," and the same water police are or ought to be present on tho arrival of the Thames steamers with fresh flounders aboard for tho wholesale markets. Yet the wholesale dealer escapes, thetiaheraian escapes, and with the vigilance of truly zealous policemen the hawker (who must take what ho can get or go without) is prosecuted for what our water polico have already winked at, and two of his more favoured brethren have already been guilty of. I think I need scarcely remind Inspector Broham thab if there wero no small fish caught thore would bo none sold, and with a little more care on the part of tho water police they might let the wholesale dealers and fishermen know thoy are breaking the raj illation a ever;/ day. —Yours, for the wrong that lacks assistance,

Fish Ho !
