PASTOR BIRCH'S APPEAL.

(To tho Editor.)

Sr Kj —Although the appeal made by Pastor Birch has been responded to by many in no niggardly fashion, and has been the means of bringing sunshine into many a home w lift re the chill hand of poverty had entered, exchanging its gloom for the merry laughter of children—still there is very much more to be done. I have in conjunction with others been inquiring into tha circumstances of those who_ have been mentioned to us as likely recipients of those gifts, and tho more I inquire, the more difficult it is to find oufc the deserving poor, for they, as a rule, do not " wear their hearts upon their sleeves for daws to pick at," bub suffer in silence. That there are many such we are finding out every day, and as a consequence our resources have become exhausted. May I then, in tho interesfa of the little ones who during the Christmas week have had their hearts gladdened, make a further appeal to the public through your columns to continue their gifts during the New Year's week, in the form 'of toys and clothing oE all kinds, and money—which will exchange for anything,—so that many who regard the New Year, and not Christmas, as a day of reioirung, may be benefited, and their little ones dance and prance in the Domain on that day with greater glee.—Yours, etc., A Scotchman.
