THE YACHT BEAGLE.

REPORTED AT TAHITI

A short time ago, it will be remembered, the absconding directors of one of the smashed financial institutions in Melbourne, the Victorian Loan and Investment Society, were reported to have escaped to Honolulu in a schooner-yacht named thoßeagle, an exImperial gunboat. The Beagle reached Honolulu, and two of tho passengers were there apprehended on a charge of having stolen money in their possession, but were released, and the yacht left for, it waa presumed, Japan. She did not go to Japan, however, for the steamer Richmond, which arrived here from the South Sea Islands this morning, reports having spoken her at Papeete, Tahiti (Society Islands). The Richmond reports: "The notorious yacht Boagle \va3 lying in Papeete Harbour when we called at that port, a fortnight ago. Her owners, Messrs Douglas and Bloom, were greatlyannoyed at the foolish reports that wore flying about concerning themselves and the absconding bank manager. They state that there is no truth in the yarns."
