AUCKLAND SUMMER MEETING.
This morning at Ellerslie Queen of Trumps did an excellent gallop on the plough over the Cup distance. She went the first round alone and was then joined by Clanranald. The mare finished in front of the three-year-old. Stepniak appeared to have the best of North Atlantic over six furlongs. British Lion put in three rounds on the plough, moving more freely than usual. Fiesole, Reprisal and The Workman went once round the plough at top. It was an excellent gallop. Whakawatea also went really well, and may beat Stepniak in the Foal Stakes. Hilda is still a firm favourite for the Cup at 6 to 4, and 6 to 1 is wanted about Queen of Trumpa. Fraternite's admiret-3 are willing to accept 3 to 1, but 2 to 1 is the best offer. British Lion and The Dreamer are quoted at S to 1 each.
