A start •sras made by the harbour engineer yesterday with the experiment of shifting the shingle accumulating at the breaKwaber._ The Priesbman grab dredge liffca the shingle into a hopper, from which it is sluiced along the shoot under the wharf into the hopper of the punt dredge, which. carries it away while the hopper is being refilled. About 200 tons wasgobaway day morning, and when a few imperfections are remedied the apparatus will work more rapidly. The annual accumulation averages 60,000 yards, or say 2,000 tons a week.
