FATAL ACCIDENT.
A very sad and sudden accident occurred near Hawera on Tuesday evening lasc ab 7 p.m. to a young man named Thomas East. It appears he was trying to catch a horse when the animal suddenly launched out with its hind hoof and kicked him in the bowels, thereby causing severe internal injuries. He was conveyed to the Cottage Hospital.by hia employer, Mr H. Linn, and his brother, where they arrived at 3.50 a.m. next day. Mrs Hughes, the macron of the Hospital, procured the services of Dr. Alexander, who. tried to alleviate the sufferer's pain, which he managed for an hour or two; bub a 9 he kepb gradually sinking it was advisable to have the second doctor for a consultation, which proved of no use, East passing away in great agony at midnight of the 14tb. Mr J. D. Murray, late of Auckland and Pukokoho, remained with him till his death, as they had been schoolmates together, and unfortunately he was the only friend, except his employer, as the lad's parents are residing in Pukekoho. , He was the oldest of the family and hia age 20 years. The funeral took place on Friday, the 16th, at 3 p.m., Mr Murray and Mr Linn being chief mourners.
