MOUNT EDEN BAPTIST SUNDAY-SCHOOL.
The anniversary of the above school was celebrated lasb evening by a fruit soireo and public meeting. The building was well filled, and the pastor (Rev. G. D. Cox) presided. The Secretary's report showed 150 scholars upon the roll, an increase of 27 from lasb year; average attendance, 100. Seven of the sehotars had become church members. The number of teachers is 21; average attendance, 20. The school was in a prosperous condition, and the future was very hopeful. The receipts for the year were £31 19s sd, the expenditure £24 7s 2d, leaving £7 12s 3d in hand. The Rev. C. E. Beecroft then addressed the meeting upon Sunday-school work. During the evening, a pleasing musical programme was rendered by the choir and friends, Mr Freeman conducting and Miss Philson , presiding ab the organ. The items were: Chorus, " Shoulder to Shoulder," choir ; pianoforte solo, Miss Colegrove ; anthem, " Beaubitul Golden Gate," choir ; song, Miss Herde ; recitation, "The Burial of Moses," Mr Barry ; duet, Misses Phillips and Dewar ; solo, Miss Colegrove; chorus, "By the Beautiful Gate," choir ; chorus, " Awake, Awake," choir; violin and pianoforte duet, Miss Heath and' Mr Jenkins. Fruit and other light refreshments were distributed during an interval, and a successful gathering terminated with the benediction.
