London', October 8. The Queen has sent a letter to Mr Smith's family expressing the esteem sho held for him.
Tha IMarquis of Salisbury ia deeply affected ab hia colleague's death.
Mr Goschen will probably succeed "Mr Smith as leader of tho House of Commons.
Mr Smith will bo buried quietly at Ilambledon en Saturday, and a memorial service will be held in Westminster Abbey.
