OUR GOLDFIELDS.

MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS.

Alburnia.—The manager reports thab ab the battery level work on Dixon's reef is still continued with a small staff of men. The quartz is heavily mineralised. The repairs to the pass on the Star of the South leader ab this level were completed on Thursday, when a crosscut was started to cut the footwall branch, which- was met with on Monday after haying driven 15ft. This drive will now be continued. A great improvement has taken place at, the Whau level. The country is of a splendid description for gold. ; The leader which was shot down on Saturday has again opened oub to ibs usual size, the quartz carrying good mineral and showing strong dabs of gold.

Norfolk.—The manager reports that during the past week the low level has been extended a further distance of 22 feet, and is penetrating a good class of sandstone. The reef should be to hand in less than a fortnight.

Calliope.—The manager reports that the reef was/broken down on Saturday, and is fully IS inches wide, while along the back of the slope continues about three feet, wide, the quartz being very white and flinty. The vein on the) hanging-wall, which ie from four to six inches wide, is more promising-looking stone. A second stope has been starter! eastward, and colours of gold were seen in the quartz when breaking down. The hanging wall leader is still. divided into two branches about two inches wide, good dabs oi gold being occasionally seen in both.

Divks G.M. Company.—The manager reports that a break has appeared in the eastern end of the drive on the reef at No. 3 level striking diagonally across the formation and completely cutting off the footwall portion of the lode, and as the hangingvrall portion is much disturbed, this will probably be cut off too. A few more feet of driving will prove this. The break will have the effect of throwing the reef come distance into the wall. As the trial crushing from this side of the break has nob proved satisfactory, he anticipates getting better results after picking up the reef again on tho other side of the break, and will push on the drive with that object in view.
